I’m a counselor with an international background. I graduated as a Counselor in Italy, and I’m currently registered with AiCo, a professional body for the education, training, accreditation, and regulation of counselors in Italy. I believe that improving as a professional is a continuous process. At the moment, I am training to become a certified therapist in Somatic Experience, developed by Peter Levine, Ph.D., a body-oriented therapeutic model that helps heal trauma and other stress disorders.Another approach I keep in my toolbox is Compassionate Inquiry, a psychotherapeutic approach developed by Dr. Gabor Maté that reveals what lies beneath the appearance we present to the world. I’ve been practicing meditation for many years, and I used to be a yoga instructor; this long experience also allows me to offer tools to manage daily stress.
What moved me along this path was my passion and curiosity in understanding what lies behind our unique mechanisms: Why do we think, feel and act in a certain way? What lies beyond these patterns that we perceive as our nature? These were the questions that moved me.
You might have noticed that specific patterns, situations, or people keep coming back in your lives. What blocks you from acting differently and moving in a different direction? In a session, we can explore what lies behind those re-occurring situations and understand why you are stuck into that script. I also put a lot of emphasis on emotional work: During our upbringing, we might develop a dysfunctional relationship with specific emotions; we might put a positive or negative label rather than understanding the wisdom or embracing the energy they carry.
For example: What lies behind the anger I feel when someone belittles me? Can I feel this anger and express it healthily rather than pretend is not there or express it in a dysfunctional way? While doing that, I can also investigate the real reason why I get so upset? When I work with people, I work with the cognitive and emotional understanding of the situation and the Somatic component, which is how specific problems find expression in our body.
I was born and raised in Italy, but I have spent many years of my life abroad. My interest in self-knowledge and well-being began with Yoga and meditation in my early 20′. This interest led me to live and spend extended periods in the Asian continent and become a yoga instructor; subsequently, I turned this interest towards Western psychology.
