3 Years of Experience

Sessions from: 55

My Credentials:

I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, with a degree in Psychology and a Masters in Health Psychology and Neurological Rehabilitation, both from University of Aveiro, Portugal. I recently completed specialized training in adult ADHD and another in dealing with emotional distress.

After finishing my degree in 2015, life happened and I worked for a few years in fields unrelated to Psychology, before coming back to my true passion of helping other humans improve their quality of life. Since then, I have conducted over 1000 psychology sessions and helped clients meet a wide array of therapeutic goals: from managing anxiety and learning how to better regulate their emotions, to bettering their relationships, improving self-esteem and deepening their personal development.

I started working with patients in 2015, when I was an intern at my university’s clinic, as part of my training. Since then, I have worked at private clinics, schools, and in my own online private practice, which allowed me to reach clients from all over the globe, and particularly expats struggling with their new reality. I have experience with children, adolescents, and adults – the latter being my favorite population to work with.

My Approach:

My practice is informed by a few evidence-based therapies, such as CBT, person-centered, and third-wave cognitive therapies (particularly ACT – Acceptance and Commitment Therapy).

A session with me will be a relaxed, yet deep conversation where we will address your concerns, challenges, and needs. I aim to create a space where clients feel free to be themselves, without fear of judgement. So you are free to cry, laugh, and swear (and I will do it too, sometimes!).

The first few sessions will be all about your current difficulties and struggles, and we will also touch on your life history to understand the path that brought you to where you are today, and how you were shaped by your experiences and by the persons in your life (parents, friends, partners, and other significant relationships).

I always recommend that sessions occur on a weekly basis; this happens because research shows a weekly commitment is the most efficient and effective way to achieve your therapeutic goals. As treatment progresses, we may space out the sessions to occur every other week.

About Me:

Outside of work, I spend most of my time reading and watching horror movies. Music is a big part of my life, and I try to go to concerts frequently.

The experience of having to work outside of my field for a few years was certainly very frustrating, but today I look at it as an invaluable opportunity that enriched me as a person. I had to work shifts in a very physical job, all while dealing with the emotional distress that came with not being able to meet my expectations and the goals that I had set for my path; that nasty feeling of “being behind” in life. This led me to a path of personal development and working on my self-esteem that I now carry with me into every session and that informs the way I work with clients.

I am a Portuguese therapist who has experience in working with expats. I currently work exclusively with adults, and only online, since this allows me to reach and help more clients. I offer sessions in both Portuguese and English.
