My name is Vicky and I’m a licensed psychologist and an accredited coach with 20 years of experience working with people from different cultures and ethnic backgrounds. I am a Chartered Psychologist (CPsychol.) and Associate Fellow (AFBPsS) of the British Psychological Society.
I completed my undergraduate degree in Psychology at the University of Athens, Greece and my PhD in Psychology at the University of Liverpool, UK. I worked for almost a decade in the UK in both counselling services as well as a a private psychologist. Afterwards, I moved to multicultural Brussels in Belgium where I established my private practice for five years having clients mainly from the expat community. Five years ago, I moved back to Greece where I completed a certificate in Coaching at the University of Athens and I started working privately with clients from Greece and from abroad.
I am trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), EMDR, Humanistic Psychology and coaching. I use an eclectic and integrative approach in my work. I deeply believe that a psychologist should approach and listen to the clients not only for what they say but also for what they say means to them. The psychologist does not treat the person as someone “who is out of his mind”, “as someone who is unable to cope with difficulties”, “as someone with psychological wounds”. Stereotypical expressions that have been created with ignorance and social stigma but which are far from what the science of psychology advocates.
The visit to a psychologist, the therapeutic relationship that develops, should create a safe framework for communication with ourselves. The guidance of an expert helps in the inner exploration that everyone does within themselves, in their thinking and feeling. This path can lead someone to change his behaviors, to manage situations that trouble him and to claim the changes he wants for his life.
Man often struggles within himself to arrange the pieces of the puzzle. As a psychologist I aim to support my clients in this effort in order to join the pieces of the puzzle.
The human need for communication always exist. One or many things may be troubling us, it is our need for inner communication, for personal search, to form the picture of the puzzle of our life. A heartbreak that led us to a dead end, a secret that nests inside us for years and does not find peace, a pain that torments us for years might seek for an answer. All these together and separately are scattered mosaics of a puzzle. They often say, a picture is worth a thousand words. I too will try to create a picture with many pieces of clients’ life events. Harmoniously bound together, leading to self-knowledge and happiness, in whatever way one means. It is enough to look at them from the perspective that will give us the completion of the puzzle, our own image, of what we think, what we feel, what we do about what is happening around us and how we finally manage all these in everyday life and in the battle to win quality of and satisfaction with it.
I like spending my free time travelling, swimming, hiking and reading books. I love music and I am an avid fan of Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys and Frank Sinatra.
I am an English-speaking Psychologist in Athens, Greece specialised in psychotherapy and coaching for adults.
