My credentials:

My clinical specialties include treatment of adolescents and adults seeking counseling for stress, anxiety, panic attacks, depression, mood disorders. Expertise in addressing life transitions, adjustment issues, anger, self-esteem, relational breakdowns,  personality disorders, addictions not just to substances but also manifested in other ways, like gambling or gaming.

  • Registered Clinical Psychologist – Ordine Psicologi del Lazio, sez. A n. 18752
  • Licensed Psychotherapist – International Institute for Psychoanalytic Research and Training of Health Professionals n. 01115
  • Professional Coach ICF – International Coach Federation membership n. 902734, March 2011

My Approach:

Therapy can help you to replace negative and unproductive thought patterns with more present and beneficial ones. Treatment focuses on exploring your thoughts, emotions, and interpersonal relationships to help you gain greater clarity and self-awareness. It will be tailored to your individual needs, enabling you to care of your symptoms and to improve your wellbeing. Both Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Psychodynamic Therapy are available.

The goals of psychodynamic therapy include, but extend beyond, symptom remission. Successful treatment should not only relieve symptoms (i.e., get rid of something) but also foster the positive presence of psychological capacities and resources. Depending on the person and the circumstances, these might include the capacity to have more fulfilling relationships, make more effective use of one’s talents and abilities, maintain a realistically based sense of self-esteem, tolerate a wider range of affect, have more satisfying sexual experiences, understand self and others in more nuanced and sophisticated ways, and face life’s challenges with greater freedom and flexibility.

About Me:

I have lived abroad as an exchange student in the USA (North Carolina, Indiana, Illinois) and as an expat worker in Europe in Germany and Spain. These experiences have enriched both my cross-cultural background and my understanding of the difficulties that adjusting to a new environment may bring. I am also very sensitive to the issues of third-culture kids, i.e. children who grow up in a culture different from the one in which his or her parents grew up.

Summary:

I am an English-speaking psychologist and psychotherapist in Rome specialised in working with adults, couples, older adults and teenagers.

Overall

Dr. La Veglia is an excellent therapist. I had only one session with him, but I already felt comfortable and understood. Highly recommended!
