Hi, my name is Álvaro Fernández Cencerrado and I’m a Clinical Psychologist from Madrid.
I’ve worked in Proyecto Hombre (“Human Project”) a name used by many associations alongside the world that share the common factor of working in the addictions field, specialised myself in healthy uses of technology such as gaming and even improving its performance, which led me to be the Team Queso’s psychologist (one of the main esports gaming team in Spain) and also have experience doing therapy face-to-face and online in other clinics and platforms. Adding to that, did many workshops gaming related but also of assertive communication in third-age and smile-therapy.
I understand therapy as an act between two people where I work with the role of therapist and you come with the role as patient / client. My approach is simple: I give value to everything that happens in your life, therefore, if you know a little bit of our psychological world, the word will be holistic. I have a holistic approach in therapy as I put everything on the table. For instance: studies, work, family, friendships, relationships, spirituality, personal development, hobbies, nutrition, physical care, etc.
In my firsts sessions with you I will try to connect with you, adapting to your rhythm and gather information to start working.
What is most appreciated from my patients is the feeling of confidence that its built and that I’m deeply honest with them even when it comes to point out if we are building therapy-dependency. If you need testimonies, feel free to ask for them as I have enough trust on my previous patients to ask for it. Also I would lie to you if I tell you that I never have had situations where I think did not 100% right and I’m transparent, honest and straight forward enough as I said to talk with you about these situations under your request.
My way of working is totally flexible and you won’t need to schedule a weekly session with me, but neither be afraid of asking for any session needed even if more than twice a week. Each person set ups directly or indirectly its therapeutic rhythm and I like to flow with you in that.
During my experience I helped people with anxiety, sexual problems, addictions, mourning, burnout, relationship problems, self-esteem. Have to say that most of the problems is not only one “tag”, it is main headline inter-correlated with many variables in consonance with the holistic approach.
Even, the holistic approach is my main tag; inside myself, I think in a psychoanalytical way (you can always ask me why we do this, why you say this, etc.) meanwhile outside I act with many values of the humanistic person-centred therapy from Carl Rogers, third-generation therapies, bioenergetics, emotional and psychosomatics. Also I have hypnosis, relaxation and meditation knowledge with helps pretty good in many exercises.
In the case that I’m not the right psychologist for you, don’t worry, I’ll help you finding the right person and approach for your circumstances. Connection between the person and the therapist is important and we can’t tell that happens in the 100% of cases.
As I said, you directly (by telling me how you want your therapy to be) or indirectly (we walk together, proposing, examining and deciding what is best), you create your own therapy experience and always will be my pleasure to have the chance, as deep you feel you can let me, to know and help you.
In my free time I enjoy to hang out with my friends, doing a physical exercise whether on the gym or sports (mainly basketball) and listening to podcast and Twitch live streamings. Also is pretty emotionally important for me to dance and watch movies with my girlfriend.
I am an English-speaking psychologist in Madrid, Spain specialised in working with adults, couples, families, older adults, children and teenagers.
