My Credentials:

I am a retired Chartered Counselling Psychologist from the UK, currently living in France. I am BACP registered and run an online private practice. My professional background began in psychiatric nursing, where I worked as a ward sister on acute admission wards, followed by experience in community settings and voluntary counselling work with MIND. After starting a family, I completed a degree in Psychology, followed by a Master’s qualification and professional training as a Psychologist. I have also worked within the fostering and residential sector with looked-after children, and I have designed and delivered training on attachment theory and related topics. I previously maintained a private practice seeing clients across a wide range of ages and presenting difficulties.

My Approach:

My therapeutic work is grounded in an existential and attachment-informed framework. I focus on helping clients understand both their internal emotional world and the external relational systems that influence them. This includes exploring how relationships—past and present—shape experience, behaviour, and emotional wellbeing. A key focus of my work is on recognising patterns that may feel self-perpetuating or self-defeating, particularly within attachment-based dynamics. I also support clients in understanding how external pressures can contribute to anxiety, depression, loneliness, and a loss of meaning. Central to the process is the exploration of change: how to face it, tolerate its uncertainty, and gradually develop new ways of responding to life. While this can feel challenging or intimidating, it can also open the possibility for meaningful and lasting transformation. My approach values reflection on life’s unpredictability, personal meaning, and evolving value systems, including how some previously held beliefs may become burdens over time. I also work with themes such as personal responsibility, choice, and acceptance of life’s “givens” within a supportive therapeutic space.

About Me:

After retiring early, I relocated to France, which required significant personal adjustment, including adapting to a different culture, distance from family and familiar support systems, and the emotional impact of relocation. This experience has further deepened my understanding of change, adaptation, and resilience. I initially worked exclusively in person but have since adapted to online therapy, which I now find to be a highly effective and meaningful way of working. I am committed to providing a respectful, compassionate, and thoughtful therapeutic relationship in which clients feel supported as they navigate difficult and often courageous personal work.

Summary:

I am an English-speaking counsellor in France, offering online therapy sessions to teenagers, adults and older adults. I specialise in the treatment of anxiety, depression, loneliness, loss of meaning, relational and attachment difficulties, emotional distress, and challenges related to life transitions and change. My therapeutic ethos is compassionate, reflective, and relational, with an emphasis on understanding patterns, making sense of lived experience, and supporting meaningful and lasting change within a safe and respectful therapeutic relationship.
